On Dentists

I brush my teeth too hard it would seem.
Which I suppose is an improvement on the vague aura of disapproval over dental neglect which the profession normally exudes.

Date: 2009-07-21 11:48 am (UTC)Don't get me started on dentists. No sign of an NHS one in this area, so I've just moved practices. The bloke seems pleasant and he passed my test as to whether he would recommend unnecessary work. But blimey, the prices are double what they were in my previous (also private) practice.

Date: 2009-07-21 12:17 pm (UTC)I was recommended an electric toothbrush, though not with any fancy "you are brushing too hard" warning lights. The dentist just said that people with electric toothbrushes had been shown to have fewer problems.

Date: 2009-07-21 02:06 pm (UTC)I've made an appointment to see a dentist in St Mellion next month. This will be the first dentist I have seen in about ten years. I am anticipating a similar experience to yours because dentists are just like that. I think there's an episode of The Simpsons where Bart and Lisa are taken to the dentist and on the wall of the waiting room is a poster that says something like "However you're brushing your teeth, it's wrong".
I actually think dentists are pretty cheap. The amount of training required to become a dentist must be pretty lengthy, yet their charge-out rates seem about the same as garage mechanics. My new (private) dentist will charge me for a regular check-up less than a fifth of what my firm would charge him for my time as an accountant.

Date: 2009-07-21 02:14 pm (UTC)The one I bought is a rechargeable Oral-B / Braun one (a 'Triumph' I think) that I bought because they were half-price in Waitrose. (I can't remember anything ever being half-price in Waitrose.) I've had it for a fortnight and haven't had to recharge it yet. This is good, because the one thing we forgot to put in the bathroom when we had it done, was a shaver point, so I'll have to recharge it in another room.

Date: 2009-07-21 03:00 pm (UTC)This has confused me slightly. My mouth has teeth on the left, teeth on the right and teeth at the front. It divides up pretty neatly into thirds, and rather less neatly into 'quadrants'.

We have a shaver socket in the bathroom... halfway up a wall with nothing underneath it but we fully intend to put something there when we get around to doing the bathroom up.
