Throwback Thursday: 7th Birthday Party
Jul. 14th, 2016 06:34 pmI was given my first camera for my 7th Birthday so this is one of the earliest photos I ever took.

The curtains and sofa cushions remain in my parent's kitchen to this day, but somehow contrive to look less completely 70s when not complemented by an array of 1970s party frocks.

Date: 2016-07-27 11:45 am (UTC)I think I got my first camera a bit later, maybe around 9, bought with the £5 prize money from an art competition (design a poster to "Keep Southampton Tidy"!) I was going to say it was only b&w though, then I realised of course that was the film, not the camera - and the reason we bought b&w was because Daddy could develop those himself (great memories of that) rather than having to pay the chemist :-)
I think it was probably my 7th birthday that my Nanna bought me my first 'proper' (i.e. full-length) party frock, which I loved, with a brown corduroy bodice and floral skirt and sleeves - looked *very* like the one in the bottom right of your photo:-) My favourite thing about it was the little orange velvet bow at the neckline - ah, the '70s :-)

Date: 2016-07-28 06:07 pm (UTC)It's odd, it wasn't until I posted this photo that it occurred to me that there was a definite "look" to the 1970s party frock - but floral print and some kind of bodice were obviously a thing.
