Fossil of a Pregnant Icthyosaur though I'm not personally convinced you would know it was pregnant from the picture, if you hand't been told.

Image filched from the DK Encyclopedia of Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Life.

It's a pregnant icthyosaur fossil, though it's a bit tricky to spot the embryo.

In trying to find out which fossil this was, it turned out there are actually quite a lot of fossils of pregnant icthyosaurs out there!

Is this the one in Bristol City Museum? I can't remember if the one they have is a cast or an original. It's a fascinating piece.

The picture credits are frustrating. If I'm reading correctly its a DK owned image but when I search for Icthyosaur on their images website, I get nothing...

I know it's definitely in Bristol museum. I'll check next time I can go there if it's original or not. I know they lost a lot of their big fossils in the Bristol Blitz when they took a hit from an incendiary bomb.

Google image search suggests there are several pregnant icthyosaur fossils, so this might not be the Bristol one.

I'm pretty sure it is the Bristol one as I;ve seen it loads of times, but will check next time I'm there.
