Reading: Having finally finished Extinction Event, I then powered my way through China Mieville's The City and the City before getting bogged down again in the final Primeval novel, Fire and Water. I've avoided Mieville's work for years having somehow got the impression it leaned heavily into horror but that definitely wasn't the case with The City and the City which was probably closest to being Urban Fantasy while being nothing like Urban Fantasy (no wizards or garrets anywhere in sight). I found the prose a little dense to follow in places, and in particular occasionally lost the sense of who was speaking in conversations (characterisation is perhaps not Mieville's strong point), but the concept and the mystery really gripped me.

Listening: Computer Science at Manchester has a podcast. It is much what you would expect but interesting from the perspective of a new member of staff none-the-less.

Watching: Following a random recommendation we have watched our way though Season 1 of The Umbrella Academy. The teenager joined in since she had already watched it but forgotten much (or so she said). I'm convinced it's an extended Prisoner reference of some kind but the rest of the family disagree with me (and the Internet at cursory glance has nothing to say on the subject). We also, therefore, watched the first episode of The Prisoner for comparison purposes.
