Nice to see this pop up in your Randomiser, and that you enjoyed it! Despite the weak ending, this is one of my favorite Fifth Doctor episodes, in part because it was so laid back and allowed the TARDIS crew to interact a bit without the pressure of imminent death.

My understanding is that the script originated as a murder mystery, that Terence Dudley had already written it for a different programme and for whatever reason abandoned it in his bottom desk drawer. Then he was told to write a Doctor Who episode, so he pulled it out, modified it to add the sci-fi elements, and submitted it.
