Oooh, I have that annual! Picked it up cheap from a school fete when I was in primary school. Unfortunately, it's not one of the insane ones apparently produced on drugs by people who had never actually watched Doctor Who. It did have some nice articles on special effects and set design, as I recall, although hardly up to the standards of a modern DWM article.

I think it's fare to say that even though the annuals had moved closer to the show, the primary audience was still considered to be bemused grandparents looking for a Christmas present.

It's mostly competent but dull - which I recall feeling was preferable to the 1970s fare, even though these days, the 1970s annuals are I think more highly prized, if only because of the bizarre factor.
