Almost the first thing B asked me when I skyped home from Japan was "what are the loos like?"

There were indeed most impressive.

The above is the loo in my hotel room. Note the control panel at the side. This, combined with the low cistern does make the loos rather long. In the stalls at airports and similar places it was often quite a shuffle to get in because the loo, itself, was taking up so much room. Heated loo seats though, I must say, are very pleasant.

This is a close up of the control panel on the loo at the convention centre. I have to confess I never had the guts to explore the difference between spray and bidet, let alone investigate which water pressure I preferred.

And yes the button marked `flushing sound' does exactly that, with volume control. It doesn't actually flush the loo (the flush was concealed elsewhere). B was fascinated by this information and Made Enquiries. Apparently loos in public places (like the convention centre - my hotel loo didn't have a flushing sound) were found to be using excessive amounts of water because people were inclined to flush the toilet unnecessarily in order to drown out any other embarrassing noises they might happen to be making. Hence the provision of a flushing sound button.

So I hope you all now feel more enlightened than you did before reading this!!
