Consider the, entirely hypothetical, situation in which you have persuaded your wife, partner or other interested party to enter your attic to put into practice a theory of yours involving sheep's wool insulation and solving a leaky roof. You have persuaded them to do this on the, not unreasonable, grounds that they are smaller than you are and will have less trouble moving around up there.

They are now trying to get out of the attic. Recall that this is a short person. Getting out of the attic therefore involves dangling from a hole in the cieling and gradually edging themselves further and further out while you guide their feet to the top of the ladder.

I would like to suggest that, in this hypothetical situation, the observation "this would be a lot easier if you did more press ups" is not, perhaps, as encouraging as it sounded in your head.

He's cooking supper now and generally creating space for me to amuse myself reading ficathon entries so all is forgiven.

(and he is right, with strong arms - or at least more confidence in their strength - the whole process would have been easier)

I thought it was pretty funny too, or at least I did once I was down safely.

He refrained from comment the second time I went up, although, since he'd just fallen off the ladder, I think maybe he was taking my caution a bit more seriously.

Yes! firmly in the main rooms of the house. There is still a little more attic work to be done but I figure it can wait for another weekend.

Of course, at some point, we need to re-insulate the whole attic but we need to save up for the cost of materials first.

At my first house, a guy came to fix the aerial. I started to offer him a hand to get into the loft, when he swung himself up very easily, explaining that he used to work as a rigger in Hercules transport aircraft.

I was a model of restraint. Besides, I did really want to get out there and kicking him in the head might have delayed matters.
