You know its a funny thing, without doing anything major different, this episode managed to be so much less rubbish than the last. We've swapped set pieces in a shopping centre for set pieces in an office block but the basic story actually had a bit more drive even if it was only "find out about monsters, rescue people on floor 12, rescue Stephen, switch on air conditioning" at least when compared to "hunt a raptor in the shopping centre, hunt another raptor in the shopping centre". The monster of the week may only be an excuse to drive the character interactions, but at least here it all seemed to fit together more naturally than before and the excuse was not so blatantly thin. The team, with the exception of scary lipstick woman, were not nearly as daft as last week either (though possibly only because this time out they didn't take any weaponry with them which dramatically reduced the available scope for messing things up) and I'm prepared to make excuses for scary lipstick woman on the grounds of true-personality-trying-to-get-out. The overall set up remains pretty daft but [livejournal.com profile] lil_shepherd has almost convinced me this is intentional. I also failed to see the point of the "oh no burrowing babies" bit at the end, since it provided a mere minute or so of extra tension and appeared to have no character purpose either. [livejournal.com profile] spiralsheep has almost convinced me that this was because it was all freudian.
