Next weekend I predict will be spent on Christmas Cards and last minute internet shopping on the part of The Teenager (I'm trying to get her to manage the logistics of her own present buying this year).

It seems to be an early Christmas this year, everyone around here has got trees and lights up already. Perhaps we all feel an unusual need to light the place up with jolly decorations this year?

I think we'll do ours at the weekend probably.

I think there comes a point, particularly when children are involved, when the path of least resistance is simply "fine! It's December! We'll decorate".

Though it must be said, life being what it is, I tend to pick the first reasonably free weekend in December for decoration anyway.

I have to confess that about four years ago I cracked and got a fake tree (in my defence it was obvious in advance that Christmas that year was going to be a nightmare, even if I hadn't appreciated quite how much of one). It was so much less trouble we kept it the next year and then last year I went out and brought a rather nicer and more up-market fake tree which you see here.

So, not concerns about the needles.

It was worth the money. I'm still using the fake one I got for a pound in the sales a decade ago. Trees, real and fake, are so pricey this year.

Yes it is. Someone gave it to me as a present a few years back and this year it got promoted to "Dalek Fairy" status.
