purplecat: The Tardis against a sunset (or possibly sunrise) (Doctor Who)

Last time I watched this tale of mermaids and pirates I described it as "dull and stupid". I think I enjoyed it more this time around, some of the banter between the Doctor and Captain Avery is quite fun to watch, but I still felt it dragged rather in places (which is a bit fatal for a swashbuckler). In particular, everyone's total inability to prevent anyone (except Rory) being taken by the mermaid began to look distinctly stupid after a bit, and snappier direction would have avoided the problem. Even NLSS Child noticed and commented upon this.

She liked the idea that the crew of Avery's ship were "Space Pirates" at the end, and I refrained from saying "but do you think that's a good idea?"

But really it's still pretty dull and stupid.
