purplecat: The Tardis against a sunset (or possibly sunrise) (Doctor Who)

Four more Doctor Who companion outfits for your delectation and delight! Outfits selected by a mixture of ones I, personally, like; lists on the internet; and a certain random element.

Selection of images of Vicki's outfit from Galaxy 4. A knee-length sleeveless dress with a geometrical pattern. It has a white belt around the hips. Flat shoes.

Vicki in Galaxy 4 I always think this dress looks a bit 1920s, though I suspect it is early 1960s fashion.

Selection of images of Ace's outfit from The Curse of Fenric. A grey skirt and jacket combination. The jacket has large buttons down the front. It has short sleevs and white collar and cufffs. The skirt is full. She is wearing a red hair net. Sheer black tights and flat shoes.

Ace in The Curse of Fenric I've always found this outfit a bit odd. I assume it actually is modelled on a genuine 1940s ensemble since costume drama is one thing the BBC has always been good at. But it's never really convinced me.

Selection of images of Amy's outfit from The Beast Below. A short plain white nightdress. Thin blue and white stripey dressing gown. Flat lace up shoes.

Amy in The Beast Below OK, so, yes, I've included this in part for the LOLs. Though also - why not wander around alien environments in your nightwear? It probably looks no stranger than contemporary clothing.

Selection of images of Rose's outfit from Tooth and Claw. A denim mini-dress with a dungaree style top. A pink T-Shirt underneath with a domed crown design on the chest just visible. Black leggings and black knee-high boots.

Rose in Tooth and Claw Rose all dressed up and ready to go to a punk concert but finds herself in the company of Queen Victoria, who was not amused.

Had to vote for Ace, if not only for my young cousin's comment (aged 7-8 at the time she saw some The Curse of Fenric clips): "Why is she the lunch lady?" :P

That is what bugs me (and probably what bugged my cousin too). Yeah, I don't think the hairnets were like that, no.

I like Vicki's little sundress but I think I would have liked it better without the belt. It doesn't really fit the look somehow. And does, as you say, make it look like something from the 1920s.

I went looking for other examples of the kind of hairnet/snood Ace is wearing and actually found this one of two women working in a munitions factory in 1942. Ace's is denser but the basic look is the same. So apparently they did exist but possibly just for wearing when work required it?

Oh thanks for the info regarding the hairnet!

I think the colour being so saturated is what makes it odd.

You're welcome! Wikipedia is a great resource. Particularly after I'd remembered hairnets were sometimes called snoods.

I wonder if that's maybe supposed to show Ace's contemporary personality peeking through.
