purplecat: The Tardis against a sunset (or possibly sunrise) (Doctor Who)

Four more Doctor Who companion outfits for your delectation and delight! Outfits selected by a mixture of ones I, personally, like; lists on the internet; and a certain random element.

Selection of images of Ben's outfit from The War Machines. A sailor outfit complete with hat.

Ben in The War Machines Ben was, of course, an able seaman. Therefore he debuted in a sailor outfit.

Selection of images of Amy's outfit from The Rebel Flesh/The Almost People. Short cut Jeans with grey/green lace up boots. A red checked shirt and with a black leather jacket over it.

Amy in The Rebel Flesh/The Almost People Amy went through a bit of a checked-shirt phase at the start of series 6. Possibly this is supposed to be the same shirt she is wearing in The Impossible Astronaut! Possibly ganger Amy cloned the shirt along with everything else!

Selection of images of Leela's outfit from The Face of Evil and several other stories. Brown knee-length leather boots. A brown leather leaotard that looks as if it is stitched together with large red stitiches from vertical strips of leather. A leather belt/skirt which has a long piece hanging down the front and a shorter piece at the side. It has openings at the hips where a leather pouch and dagger sheath are mounted on a belt. It is low cut at the back with two pieces of red string going up the middle of the back to attach at the shoulders.

Leela Leela actually has two "leather leotard" outfits but this is the more famous of the two, probably because it featured in all the publicity shots introducing the character. Honestly, for something designed "for the Dads" in the 1970s it could have been a lot worse. It certainly gives a lot more of an impression of practicality than a chainmail bikini, for instance.

Selection of images of Katarina's outfit. A long dress in an ancient greek style. It is joined at the shoulder with braoches and has a frond design at the edge of the pieces that fold down at front and back.

Katarina I should probably be grateful that we have an actual episode featuring Katarina but mostly I'm frustrated that even so it was virtually impossible to get any decent images of what she was wearing.

Ben is looking very sweet in is sailor outfit but Leela is one of my favourite characters so I still voted for her. It might be designed for the dads but except for the very naked back, the outfit looks quite practical for a tropical climate. And I've always appreciated that the Sevateem outfits provide equal opportunity ogling for but mums and dads. In fact, the guys wear even less clothes than Leela!

I believe Louise Jameson said on the Collection blu-ray that the costume was originally designed without the hanging loincloth and she had to ask for it to be added.

Some nice ones to decide between this round!

I went with Leela's: a classic! And Louise Jameson does convey that if anyone who just saw her existing to ogle at would regret their attitude.

I agree with [personal profile] turlough, although if it was made today I suspect there would be a bigger selection of beefy male actors available.
