purplecat: The Tardis against a sunset (or possibly sunrise) (Doctor Who)

Four more Doctor Who companion outfits for your delectation and delight! Outfits selected by a mixture of ones I, personally, like; lists on the internet; and a certain random element.

Selection of images of Ben's outfit from The Moonbase. White trousers. Black shoes. A stripey button up shirt.

Ben in The Moonbase I don't know what it is about that shirt, but in my imagination it's a slightly psychedelic combination of pinks and purples. I've no idea what colour those stripes actually are - I suspect pink would have been a bit much for an Able Seaman from the 1960s.

Selection of images of Yaz's outfit from Nikola Tesla's Night of Terror.

Yaz in Nikola Tesla's Night of Terror What is so awesome about this outfit is that, despite looking like a long skirt it is, in fact a pair of trousers. I've no idea whether it is historically accurate for the period, but it looks great!

Selection of images of Rose's outfit from Boom Town. Black boots with sheer tights a denim mini-skirt and jacket. Over this she has a multi-coloured crochet'd scarf and red fingerless mittens.

Rose in Boom Town I like the scarf and mittens look here. I confess the rest of the outfit is pretty ordinary.

Selection of images of Zoe's outfit from the Dominators. A regency cut dress, except teh skirt ends well above the knee. Ther are two stranges scoops at the neck, so it has straps over each shoulder and then a third strap up to a collar. Worn with bare legs and sandals.

Zoe in The Dominators Oh Dear! The fashions on the planet Dulkis are both odd and unflattering. I'm honestly not sure which is worse the strange pleated material ending at the chest worn by the men or the weird "I've grown out of my dress" look for the women. I'm not sure any companion could have carried this off. Wendy Padbury does her best but it's doing her no favours. Not my least favourite companion outfit, but probably in the bottom ten. If you like it though, please ignore me and vote for it!

For some reason I've always imagine Ben's shirt to be green and orange. Which probably would also be Too Much for his character. And yes, the costumes in The Dominators are truely horrendous!

I had no idea those were trousers! Very cool! I used to have trousers like that, back in college. When I was in chorus, our uniform was a white blouse and a floor-length black skirt, and since I didn't (and don't) like wearing skirts, I instead got trousers basically like Yaz's. I don't remember how I got them, though - I probably bought a pattern and sewed them myself.

I think split skirts like Yaz is wearing were introduced in the late 19th century for women who like cycling or disliked riding horses sidesaddle. And Wikipedia seems to confirm it.

Culottes can also, in some cases, describe a split or bifurcated skirt[8] or any garment which "hangs like a skirt, but is actually pants."[1] During the Victorian Era (mid- to late-nineteenth century European culture) long split skirts were developed for horseback riding so that women could sit astride a horse with a man's saddle rather than riding side-saddle. Horse-riding culottes for women were controversial because they were used to break a sexual taboo against women riding horses when they were expected to hide their lower limbs at all times.

I got groovy with Ben's shirt, although I did like Rose's knits.

I like the Dominator's costume, but the Dulcians def have some of the worst outfits.
