Four more Doctor Who companion outfits for your delectation and delight! Outfits selected by a mixture of ones I, personally, like; lists on the internet; and a certain random element.






Romana from The Stones of Blood At the risk of prejudging some outcomes here, Romana had the best outfits and the first Romana had the best outfits of the two Romanas. So much so, that every first Romana outfit is in this bracket - I tried to leave some out but the random process added them in. Anyway this is one of her less outrageous ones - probably because The Stones of Blood is set on Earth and part of the schtick was that she chose outfits appropriate for the planet they were visiting.




Dan from Eve of the Daleks Dan, once again, dresses depressingly like a normal person.




Peri from The Two Doctors Shorts are almost the canonical look for Peri. According to one interview I read, Nicola Bryant attended an early publicity shoot in shorts and a tight top and John Nathan-Turner assumed from that, that she would be happy to continue to be dressed like this for the duration. I think this top is an improvement on the leotard affairs she mostly got to wear with those shorts.




Peri in The Twin Dilemma We have a Peri-off!! I think this was actually the only occasion where we got a bona fide ra-ra skirt on Doctor Who.

Dan looks like those are his only clothes and he put them on in the dark. :-(

I actually love that Twin Dilemma outfit, even though in context it makes it seem like the TARDIS wardrobe can now only supply loud multicolored garments (I assume Hugo Lang’s tinfoil dressing gown will not be included?).

Overall I think Peri’s outfits do a good job looking like a real person’s wardrobe. She has some favorite styles, she rewears clothes occasionally, she dresses up or down while having the same general taste. (The out-of-universe *reasons* for why her taste involves ‘showing a lot of skin’ suck, admittedly, but that’s a different question. At least in The Two Doctors it is hot and sunny!)

This actually isn’t one of my favorites of Romana’s - the two different reddish shades and the tie-up neckline, which I keep seeing as a hoodie drawstring even though it isn’t, make it look like she picked each garment separately for comfort rather than putting an outfit together. This is what I wear on Saturdays when no one is around. She looks good in it, but she’d look good in a paper bag.

The "Two Doctors" outfit looks better because the screencaps don't capture just how ugly the shiny texture of that shirt is. On a moving TV screen it looks exactly like a puddle of petrol on asphalt.

Can't say I like any of these so went with the safe option of Romana. It does remind me of early noughties fashion, I had a friend with loads of skirts like that from Primark.

I agree that Peri had a look - and one that evolved as she stayed longer in the Tardis. Modern companions have, in general, fared better in this respect but I'd also pick Clara out has someone who seemed to have a flexible wardrobe.

TBH, I'd never noticed the different reds in Romana's outfit until I made that image. I think it's a better choice than her other outfit from Stones of Blood - but of course that was deliberately supposed to seem impractical.

TBH, I've always liked that top, though I'm not sure it is something I would ever have worn.

So far Romana has beaten the opposition hands down each time she's appeared in one of these - will her luck hold?

I always liked Clara's outfits. I was in college when she was on and I *really* wanted to dress like her. Had a blue dress and yellow top that I thought looked like her outfit in Under the Lake/Before the Flood. Now I look at her outfits and think 'that's *so* ten years ago'... Still stylish, though.
