I'm at a Dagstuhl about which I have written before though I have also attended Dagstuhl's I have not documented (or at least not documented under the tag travel:work related).

Covid precautionary arrangements seem a little uncertain. However the Schloss website suggests masking whenever we move around, so I have an FP95 with me, though presumably we will be taking them off for shared meal times, so I'm not clear how effective they will be.

The Dagstuhl hasn't actually started yet, but it's 6pm which means dinner will have just been served per the ruthless Dagstuhl timetable, so I had better go and see what it is.

I'll be at CPDP in Belgium in May. I'm not sure what their mask policy will be, though a search on their website just now reveals no mention of masks (except for academic content from previous years on masks and facial recognition) so it looks like they won't have one. Sigh.

Well, given the size and international reach of that event I suspect I'll be going with an N95 mask and not eating the provided lunch/refreshments in the common areas.

Masking is beginning to drop here a little, partly due to foreign visitors but I'm beginning to see Japanese faces (probably, Korean and Chinese visitors can be hard to differentiate on looks alone, though these really look like residents rather than visitors, anyway). The weekend before last the number of infections in Tokyo was <600 on Saturday, reported on the Sunday evening news in Japanes that I watch. Last weekend it was >1200.

Mask wearing minimal to none. Those who arrived in masks have mostly abandoned them. Those with a strong desire to avoid infection are masked and avoiding all communal meals/coffee/etc., Last UK data (and each stat has a different date from 1st April to 10th April so...) is that positive tests are down 6,000 in the past week (though so are tests taken), patients admitted is down 500 but deaths are up by 50. But in general the UK has been on a roughly 2-month cycle for a while now with deaths peaking somewhere between 100 and 150 per day at the top of the cycle and going down to around 20 per day at the bottom of the cycle. The February/March peak looks to have been a little lower (around 80 per day), but I'm not sure I'd read anything into that. I suspect the decline in testing has affected causes listed on death certificates - though I tend to view the deaths and patients admitted data as more reliable than the testing data.
