A shot from the Unearthly Child. Susan stands by the Tardis console and the Doctor and Ian have just entered. Two upright chairs are visible plus some kind of pillar thing and another... thing? Might be some sort of stand for something with decorative birds?

It always slightly surprises me how much random stuff there is in the Tardis in the early years. More so, I think, once Vicki joins the crew. This early set, in particular, looks rather like they are simply extending the junkyard theme into the Tardis itself.

That's a really good point - BBC staff thought in terms of single plays rather than series, or at least in 1963 they were moving out of a period when this was the cultural assumption - so it would be natural for Peter Brachacki to make that connection wjen designing the TARDIS interior.

I'm not sure why it had never occurred to me before - I suppose it was having to actually write the alt text for the picture and the easiest way to describe the the two strange objects seemed to be "junkyard stuff".
