Sea front of a Yorkshire Village
Staithes

15 miles/24.65km

So today we walked from Guisborough to Staithes and rather surprisingly didn't get wet.

B. at the foot of an Alum Quarry
Our walk started at the Northern Edge of the Yorkshire Moors, though we didn't stay there for long, striking North a bit as we headed for the coast.

A brick built Viaduct rises high above the path.
This is Skelton Viaduct, over which trains still run.

A slightly wonky metal bench with a vine sculpture curling over one end. Detail of the vine sculpture consisting of a caterpillar.
As we climbed up out of the valley where the viaduct was, we encountered what the guidebook described as a welcome and decorative bench. We think it probably wasn't meant to be quite so wonky.

Looking down onto a beach with a pub and cliffs in the background.
We met the cliffs at Saltburn-by-sea.

A metal post with a chain of somethings reaching the ground.
Beyond Saltburn we were told to look out for three sculptures celebrating the region's history of ironstone mining. This was the first we found, though we missed one.

A `charm bracelet' sculpture silhouetted against the skyline.
This one is called the charm bracelet.

Child on a beach.
We came down to sea level again at Skinningrove...

Wooden sculpture of a sailor standing in the prow of an old fishing boat.
... where we saw this sculpture of a fisherman.

Steeply sloping street leading down to a harbour.
We are staying the night in Staithes which is, frankly, ridiculously pretty though I haven't quite managed to capture it in these photos.

British sea front with cliffs in the background. Families are playing on the beach, small boats are moored in the harbour and there is an ice cream van.

Lovely pics of some very familiar places! I've worked at both Skelton and Skinningrove at different times. (When I did my Job I Hated (TM) probably before we were friended, and just before I got ill, I had Skinningrove as one of my areas and used to walk along the sea front taking pics of dog poo and rubbish bins! I enjoyed being out there, though, if not much else about it.)

Everywhere along the North Yorks coast is gorgeous, though! I think it's supposed to be rainier tomorrow, so I'm glad you had some decent weather to appreciate it in today.
