Small Kit Robot. Most is out of focus but the ultrasonic sensor, looking a bit like two eyes is gazing up at the camera.

Admittedly I mostly purchased it because I couldn't face going through the official work purchasing procedure and I needed it in a hurry. But now I have robot that is all mine and not, in some sense, on loan from work.

TBH, that particular shot makes it look extra cute!!

I'm guessing it has a function - I think I see some USB ports and a couple of SONAR sensors(?), beyond that I'm baffled.

It's a 4tronix Initio robot. It has an ultrasonic sensor at the front (which you can see in the photo), two IR sensors below it and two IR Line sensors under the chassis. It run by a Raspberry Pi mounted on the back (hence the USB ports and what not). We're mainly using them as a vehicle to teach Python in an engaging fashion (at least that's the theory) but 4tronix frustratingly keep switching back and forth between robot design so I needed one of this type (which had not been destroyed by students doing projects with it - which turned out to be the case with the six I have at work) in order to check that the adapted worksheets, exercise sheets and so on actually work practically with this model. I also needed it delivered to my home because I need all the resources ready for a teacher CPD session next Wednesday and I'm only in Liverpool on Thursday and Friday this week and Tuesday afternoon next week.
