I loved Freema -sorry she didn't stay in the Whoverse longer.

I've seen her twice onstage since; and she's even more radiant IRL.

I thought she was much better when portraying Martha's competence than she was at the bits that required her to wander around after the Doctor pining (which admittedly were pretty thankless). I think she was quite poorly served on the show and not then, perhaps, an experienced enough actress to push back against it.
