Front Cover of DWB 26 from September 1985. The Headline is `In the 1960s the average length of a DOCTOR WHO season was forty-two episodes. In 1986 it was.. f-f-f-f-fourteen'. There follows a Cancellation Update by Jeremy Bentham which starts THE BELL OF DOOM, SOUNDING FOR DOCTOR WHO SINCE LATE FEBRUARY, TOLLED A LITTLE LOUDER RECENTLY AS CONFIRMATION OF SEASON TWENTY_THREE'S LENGTH WAS FINALLY REVEALED and contains, underlined the phrases LIES, DAMN LIES AND STATISTICS and Rubbish. It's general gist is that the BBC has been pedalling false information in order to prevent an uproar from fans. It is continued on Page 6. At the bottom of the front page is the statement STOP PRESS - Death of `Who (Page 12). There is also a picture of Peter Davison, Nicola Bryan and Jon Pertwee plus what looks like a Colin Baker puppet captioned PanoptiCon 6 Special.

I've been wondering lately whether Chris Chibnall was a DWB reader. While Davis and Moffat were keen to trumpet their 'long term DWM reader' status in the Magazine on becoming show runner, I think Chibnall has been silent on this and certainly he was a vocal critic of the programme in the late eighties, so would have been prime DWB reader material.

Chibnall was a DWM reader too - he was a competition winner once.

Hmmm... my sense of 1980s fandom is that everyone read DWM and then people variously read other stuff of which, certainly during the cancellation crisis, DWB was the main player in terms of news and comment.
