At the end of September I went to L'aquila in Italy for the Automated Software Engineering Conference.

This is my hotel bedroom which greatly impressed me with its grandeur

I must confess I'd never heard of L'Aquila but it is a medieval hill top town and the capital of the Abruzzo region. The regional museum is hosted in the (ridiculously over-engineered) Spanish Fortress.

The museum contains a pre-historic elephant

and lots of Roman remains

L'Aquila also has lots of picturesque medieval streets:

The second of these also shows one of the city gates down the bottom.

a fountain and lots of views:

Even the conference centre was elegant.
