As an aside: Is it just me but does all the gazing into each other's eyes stuff Gwen and Jack indulge in sort of highlight something of a lack of chemistry between Jack and Ianto?

It's not just you; and I think that the dance scene was played to emphasise that for all the stumbling scenes based around Jack and Ianto dating, this is something of a relationship of convenience for at least one of them.
