Get to page 26, turn to page 27 - top of page talking about some character Galen I have never heard of. Check bottom of page - page 59. Check rest of book for pages 27-58, nada.

Oh noooooo!

I hope that isn't the same edition I just ordered last night.

Maybe I'll have to start auctioning borrowing rights for my intact, all-the-pages-in-the-right-order-despite-the-horrid-cover edition...

I ordered from an Amazon marketplace seller, so I've just emailled them to ask if they can check it before they post it. I don't know if they are small enough that that is feasible, but I reckon it can't hurt to ask.

I'm fairly sure they have to allow returns if bits are missing, even if it took you a while to notice. Sale of Goods act or something? Book with pages missing is surely not of merchantable quality, if that is the correct term.

Being interrupted in your read at page 27 surely counts as a breach of Human Rights or something... ;-P

Whenever we get a book that's wrongly bound, we return it and get a full refund or free replacement from the publisher. Or, rather, we get it from our library supplier, who presumably gets it from the publisher. Sometimes we've had the book for months before anyone bothers to point out to us that 50 pages are missing, and they've still replaced it. Bad binding that falls apart on the first use is harder to justify, but missing pages are something no-one can dispute.

I'm pretty sure you're on solid "not fit for purpose" ground so you should get a replacement no matter what. Basically the book is broken. Sales of Goods Act 1970-something if I recall (instant recall on legal statutes being one of my talents).

ps. we've both finished The Thief and thought it was great so keenly await your Queen of Attolia review.
