Reading, Listening, Watching
Dec. 16th, 2020 07:07 pmHow long since I made one of these posts?
Reading: I'm currently reading Revelation of the Daleks having previously read Resurrection of the Daleks. What is mostly striking me about these books is the extent to which they "tell" rather than "show". I have a vague memory of Eric Saward being scathing about the quality of writing in Dr. Who novelisations so it is slightly odd that these, as well as exhibiting Saward's general interest in unpleasant people being unpleasant to each other, are also pretty badly written according to common metrics.
Listening: I recently finished listening to the latest installment of what the BBC has decided to start calling The Lovecraft Investigations. Shadow over Innsmouth, I think, is not as successful as the previous outings (The Case of Charles Dexter Ward and The Whisperer in Darkness) - in particular I was very confused about what precisely happened at the climax.
Watching: Blakes' 7 - we've had the full set for a while but I was waiting for Marmalade Sparrow who said she wanted to watch it with us. However there are a number of things she says she wants to watch with us and B7, at least, is pretty easy to dip in and out of.
