My boss, MF, has just been told that his latest grant application (Verifying Pervasive Systems) will be funded by EPSRC. This includes 3 months work for me at the end of my current contract. MF tried very hard to get me as a co-investigator on this but EPSRC kept telling us the various ideas we came up with were against the rules. It may not sound like much but it means, with one thing and another, I can see paid employment up to the end of August 2009. With September being a good month to start new academic jobs I'm feeling pleasantly pleased about this. I'm still going to apply for the current batch of Lectureships (Liverpool, Central Lancashire and Salford) but don't feel quite so much that our continued solvency depends on my landing one of them. MF seems particularly keen I apply for the Liverpool one, which I think is an encouraging sign, especially as it will leave him short an RA 6 months before the current grant ends which is never a good position to be in.
