purplecat: The Tardis against a sunset (or possibly sunrise) (Doctor Who)
[personal profile] purplecat
Two Doctor Who companion outfits for your delectation and delight! Outfits selected by a mixture of ones I, personally, like; lists on the internet; and a certain random element.

Difficult one this: Two very different outfits neither of which, arguably, is top league.

Selection of images of Leela's outfit from The Talons of Weng Chiang. A victorian urchin outfit consisting of a brown leg-of-mutton sleeved jackete and breeches with red detailing. A white shirt with a loose red tie and a beret set and an angle.

Selection of images of Martha's outfit from The Lazarus Experiment. A sleeveless knee-length wine red evening dress in a chiffony material that is gathered at the waist. High-heeled black shoes.

I don't really like any of these but Leela's is at least fun and silly while Martha, while elegant, is also very boring.

Leela's reads as scruffy, and as such doesn't work for me. Martha's is understated, but elegant, and as such quite an interesting option for a companion. Also, it feels 'of its time' n a way that I think will be more obvious as time goes on.

I did not read 'urchin' from that costume at all! So, I guess it failed on the part of 'convincing' as well for me.

I'm surprised how much Martha is winning this poll, even if I did vote for her! Of course now that I saw that it could flip the other way. Martha's for me is elegant and timeless. Leela's costume looks as though it's trying far too hard. I'm all for impressive historical costumes, but not if they seem to be pushing things too much.
