OK, not quite the level of media stardom that my family normally aspires to, but I'm quietly chuffed with it.

I've made the Liverpool University news feed because my public understanding activity with the lego robots has been picked up as a NASA Space Apps challenge.

As I recall, when we* won the SIAS prize for our paper on Managing Closed Funds, we won a case of wine. But I'm not going to tell you where we got media coverage, because it's too embarrassing.

Small or large scale, it's all nice.
I got interviewed for a piece in the Nikkei Computer magazine about a year ago. Although it's the same company $WIFE works for, it's a completely different area/publication and she had nothing to do with it, honest. I still have no idea whether this is actually much of a big deal for Japanese academia or not.
One of my academic friends and colleagues in the US was recently featured in the Sunday NY Times. Now that was serious exposure. Same guy was interviewed by NHK a while back - I got a surprise when queueing up a video for $DAUGHTER and had NHK on while waiting for the machine to boot up, only to see him on their current affairs program.
What level of stardom does your family usually get? I must admit to not knowing about your famous relatives.

Himself does dinosaurs so fairly regularly gets a lot of exposure (Googling "T. Rex faster than Becks" will net you a score of articles from his biggest hit which got him on both the Today programme and Newsround). With Salford now hosting not insignificant portions of the BBC he also occasionally gets hauled in to comment on dinosaur stories (e.g., this clip from Breakfast).

The little one has only elevated herself to media stardom once, as part of a piece on the teaching of Mandarin in primary schools. However we were amused when we sat down to watch the local news programme to find himself was on it as well, plugging Jurassic CSI which was fronted by a colleague of his (and involving him in a couple of episodes).

It must be said that the chain of events leading up to this involved my sister and an email she sent to the Met Office in Exeter which contained the words "my sister is a bona fide space scientist" - this phrase now gets used by friends to introduce me at dinner parties.
