Reading: The Princess Diarist - a gift for Christmas 2017. I recently read Postcards from the Edge by Carrie Fisher and didn't much take to it. I'm hoping I will like The Princess Diarist better.

Listening: In Our Time on Nero - notable mostly for staunchly resisting any real attempt at revisionism.

Watching: B. is watching Age of Ultron (I can hear the sound track from here) having decided it might be important. G. and I have already seen it. G. and I also went to Endgame at the weekend which we both enjoyed*. We had a ticket for B but he opted out at the last minute (perhaps because he hadn't seen Ulton, I'm not really clear).

* If you think stating enjoyment of a thing is a spoiler then you can, frankly, ... well anyway, I do not consider generic evaluation good/bad/whatever nor basic statement of set-up to be spoilers. Consider yourself warned.

I liked Endgame a great deal, other than the treatment of one character's trauma-induced mental health problems. Even there, there were a couple of moments I thought were done well, but overall, that strand was played too much for comedy, I thought.

Agreed. I understand the temptation (discovery of that particular actors talent for and delight in comedy being on of the successes of recent films) but one wishes they could have aimed for a bit more nuance in the delivery.

I think they've realised how badly they misjudged it. There's an interview with one or both the directors saying it was never meant to be funny.

Hmm... I call BS on "never meant to be funny". I mean lots can change between script and screen, but no way were the scenes in New Asgard directed to be taken seriously.

I was listening to an old In Our Time on feathered dinosaurs today. It's a very good programme, but I often get out of the habit of listening.

I had no idea some people think saying you enjoyed something is a spoiler! I think that's probably a bit out of control...

It's quite interesting, In Our Time was not a programme I ever particularly sought out before I started listening to podcasts while running, but of all the various R4 programs it is the only one I now download and put in my queue as soon as it comes out. I think it may be a show that benefits from having fuller attention than I would give something while cooking (which is when a lot of my R4 listening happens).

What counts as a spoiler seems to be one of those discussions which, in certain quarters, is becoming extreme. I think most people are pretty sensible about it, but I've really no interest in getting into that particular argument.
