While some of Dicks' novelisations are solid and awful lot of them are, frankly, flimsy. I've not read any of his original novels so I can't really speak for them. He wrote a couple of pretty strong original Who novels but then seemed to descend into endless reheats really as if all originality had deserted him.

I much prefer Hulke's work and I'm surprised he seems to have faded into the background so much.
