What's the term for a graphic novel consisting of short stories because, obviously, its not a novel. Can I say comic here without someone assuming I'm belittling the form?

I purchased this out of curiosity following a rave SFX review. As B says, I probably needed to be a bit more interested in comics and, in particular, better at extracting story from pictures than I am. Several of the stories in this collection simply left me puzzled, which is never good. Some were just depressing, which is par for the course for a short story collection, but I've found I've less interest in depressing stories as I've grown older. Then there were a couple I liked but felt guilty about since they featured cute talking animals - in particular Beneath the Leaves: Jump, a rather adorable story about a baby flying squirrel, and Hugo Earheart which felt like the first installment in something longer. I also liked I wish..., Paper and String (although I found it a little heavy handed, and had trouble working out who was speaking), Outside my Window, Untitled (which was entirely wordless) and The Maiden and the River Spirit.

I'm not sure 7 out of 23 is such a good hit rate.

The pictures were very pretty though.

I suspect this may be much better for someone used to this media, I'm not sure its so accessible to someone who only picks up comics occasionally.
