Here are the rules:
1. We have to post these rules before we give you the facts.
2. Players start with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
3. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
4. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
5. Don't forget to leave them a comment telling them they're tagged, and to read your blog. (I'm not entirely sure this is necessary in the case of mutual LJ-friends; it seems more applicable to the wider blogosphere.)
1. I once won a plastic pitchfork for being the cutest demon on the battlefield.
2. I like to think I'm the best UK lambda-prolog programmer. It is more than likely that I am the only UK lambda-prolog programmer. It wouldn't entirely surprise me to discover that I have written the largest lambda-prolog program in the world.
3. My first fanfic was "Chewbacca's Diary". My sister had a lined notebook with a picture of Chewbacca on the front which she would leave outside her bedroom door at night. At which point I would fill in an entry. I can't recall how this started but I think it was a while before she worked out it was me and not Chewbacca (I think it was the fact that his writing suddenly became joined up about the same time mine did that gave the game away). I don't remember much about the contents except that a lot of death stars got blown up causing Chewbacca to complain at one point that he didn't know where the Empire was "getting all this fire power from!".
4. I once wrote a list of the first line of every Target Dr Who novel. Some years later this enabled me to win the OUDWS "Identify the target novel by its first line" quiz round pretty much hands down to the suprise of all since my grasp of Dr Who trivia is not as good as many. I also made a list recording the frequency of chapter titles in Dr Who novelisations. "Escape to Danger" was winning when I finally gave up on this.
5. My English teacher at school always read Lord of the Rings when a life-changing event was occuring. I've tried this, but Lord of the Rings is a bit long when you are in the middle of something life-changing. Pride and Prejudice seems to be a much quicker read on such occasions.
6. Since having G. I can't cope with the concept of children being hurt. I had to stop reading Metro because of this (probably a good thing since it means I do more useful stuff on the train), but there are TV ads and programs that have me scurrying upstairs to check she's alright. At first I put this down to post-natal hormones but its unlikely they are still hanging around now. I know several other women affected this way but no men.
7. B. proposed when we were both rather drunk at a post-Ruddigore party. "The Love Shack" by the B-52s was playing at the time which, of course, makes it "our song". A shame since neither of us likes it.
8. I always find it very hard to pick favourites but for a couple of years now I have had a favourite TV show (Firefly). Doctor Who, though, was my first love and certainly the show I'm most fannish about. I'm not very fannish about Firefly.
