I should also add that in Carry on Cleo , Caesar is killed, and there are deaths in other historical Carry Ons, I'm sure. The immediate postwar era was more cavalier about the portrayal of death, I suspect, because so many had lived with or close to it during the Second World War and the shadow of a third.
