I wouldn't describe myself as a Wodehouse fan, but I'll tolerate a lot more Wodehouse than I would this. There is a nuance to Wodehouse's characters underneath all the silliness and apparent stupidity that was absent here I felt. Wodehouse also rarely feels the need to explain matters at length by putting long monologues into people's mouths (let alone people's heads) and yet his stories manage to be comprehensible even at a hundred years remove.
