I am surprised to find myself surprised by the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. It reveals that I had subconsciously assumed that obviously he would get away with whatever it was he had been doing.
The arrest is the equivalent of security theatre but to pretend the Epstein Class are self-regulating and don't need outside investigation. They'll continue to get away with it. The victims will continue to be victimised.
Large scale abusers only succeed because the general population support them in positions of power (see also Trump, re-election of).
Yeah I was similarly surprised. It came up in a work chat with our EDI lead today, who did seem surprised, and my fellow LGBT network co-chair today, who was frustrated that it wouldn't change anything. True but, as you say, it makes a nice change for anyone rich to face any consequences.
You are probably correct. I think I was suprised in part that I had never articulated the assumption, even to myself, so didn't realise I had it, until I was surprised there was any consequence whatsoever.
I'm not much of a royal watcher, but I had vaguely osmosed that he was acting as if the whole thing would just go away without anything further happening.
It is truly amazing what we* all seem to take for granted, until something happens to bring our assumptions to our attention and scrutiny, yes. Not only in this case too. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
* by "we" I mean society (any society, because all human societies seem to do this)
The thing is, it's not about the rapes, it's about him sharing sensitive government documents with Epstein. He was sent government trade information while acting as an official trade envoy and those documents and A M-W's commentary on the activities he was undertaking are in the publicly released files. Not redacted by the Trump regime because it wasn't about the rapes and/or wasn't about Trump or a Republican.
This kind of thing was always more likely to get a reaction even at this level because it undermines the concept of the Royal Family being useful for the UK as diplomats.
