Ridgeway Day 1

19.5 miles (give or take) in seven and a half hours. The Ridgeway has far fewer interesting Roman Forts with attached tea rooms and the direction of travel is hugely obvious so we lost hardly any time to either sight-seeing or consulting the map. As a result our guesstimate of the time it would take us to do today's walk turned out to be over-pessimistic.

My feet were complaining slightly suspiciously at about 12 miles, so I aggressively applied compeed plasters and they seem to be fine now. So 20 miles and no blisters.

It was indeed miles and miles of miles and miles. However finishing up at Avebury was a good choice since we ended up somewhere cool.

Woo hoo, no blisters! That walk looks like thirsty work.

It was quite thirsty work, though we did have enough water (though it was pretty lukewarm by the end of it). We did meet a couple walking with three dogs and they'd had more trouble on this section. All the farmland was arable and they were used to finding regular animal watering troughs for the dogs to drink from. In the end they had had to bang on a couple of doors.

Yes, it had obviously been much drier down South than it has been in Manchester.
