Busy `pottering' morning - cleared hall ready for decorator etc. Had long afternoon rest. Jim working in cellar all morning - hope he'll finish it next weekend. Wet cold afternoon & evening.

Is 'pottering' what I as a USAmerican would call 'puttering', the concept of doing lots of little things that may or may not actually accomplish much?

I think so - it sort of encompasses spending time doing small odd jobs in a not terribly rushed way.
