purplecat: The Tardis against a sunset (or possibly sunrise) (Doctor Who)

Doctor Whordle

Sorry! I couldn't resist. I've created a Doctor Who version of the wordle game. Hopefully the words in it are enough of a mixture of normal words with Doctor Who relevance, and easily guessable words, with only a few names of aliens that have more consonants than strictly necessary!!!

It can be found at:

Doctor Whordle

Given I've been grappling with a number of completely unfamiliar web tools, all I can guarantee is that it runs in Safari, but hopefully it will run on phones and such like too!!!

Thank you! And thanks for the explanation if the link at the end of the puzzle. I shared it on Facebook and Ian Gent has had fun with it too.

Oh and I was using it in Firefox on my iPad, so that works too.

Yup, know him :) He started at St Andrews CS after I had to drop out of my CS PhD due to my neuro illness. But my husband was still doing his CS PhD, and Ian had the office next door to Martin for a year or two. We eventually met up years later and are good friends now. Many shared interests.

It works on Chrome, too! I had no idea that type of game was a "thing" right now. I only saw it a couple of days ago, when this puzzle app I play added it.

I admit that I only played it through once, because it looks like it only changes the word once a day? (If not, what's the timer for?) I really like the in-universe explanation of the word at the end. Nicely done, and I'm looking forward to working through your DW dictionary!

It works on my iPod running iOS 14 i.e. an iPod touch which is basically an iPhone without the phoning. The letter grid does rather fill the screen though, which means you have to scroll down to access the full on screen keyboard, and then back up to see the top row fill in. And I seemed to have to press the delete key twice to make it delete the last letter. But it does work :)

P.S. That was the built in Safari running on my iPod touch.

Argh. I managed to get three letters right at the second go, and then entirely failed to think of the obvious name to fill in! About as fun as the standard one (ie. I don't really get the appeal, but I didn't mind doing it once or twice)
