The Day After Tomorrow

I obscurely feel it says something about the quality of a disaster movie if the Statue of Liberty is still standing at the end. In The Day After Tomorrow* it is.

The dog survives as well**.

** my all-time favourite moment of pet survival occurs in a meteor-hits Earth made for TV movie which was otherwise instantly forgettable. In that movie there is a bizarre sequence where they try to up the tension with a moment of goldfish peril, but, phew!, the bowl wobbles to the edge of the table but then stops. The goldfish survives. One can't help wondering if the budget wouldn't stretch to a dog.

I could have sworn I remembered the head from the Statue of Liberty bouncing down a NY street in the initial flood, though. That should count for something. ;D

You know, I thought I'd seen it destroyed. I was quite surprised at the end when I saw it standing, I even commented on the fact I thought the Statue of Liberty had been knocked over but B said I was imagining things.
