Costume Bracket: Round 2, Post 13

Two Doctor Who companion outfits for your delectation and delight! Outfits selected by a mixture of ones I, personally, like; lists on the internet; and a certain random element.

I was slightly suprised that Leela's outfit won its round, although as many have commented, it's surprisingly good for something produced in the 1970s with, presumably, more than half an eye on appealing to the male gaze. A chainmail bikini, it is not. Against it we have Clara's "date night" outfit, which is fun but, perhaps, not particularly Clara, and I know at least one person viewing is irritated by the unfastened tie...

Selection of images of Leela's outfit from The Face of Evil and several other stories. Brown knee-length leather boots. A brown leather leaotard that looks as if it is stitched together with large red stitiches from vertical strips of leather. A leather belt/skirt which has a long piece hanging down the front and a shorter piece at the side. It has openings at the hips where a leather pouch and dagger sheath are mounted on a belt. It is low cut at the back with two pieces of red string going up the middle of the back to attach at the shoulders.

Selection of images of Clara's outfit from Time Heist. A black trouser suit over a white shirt. A tie is very loosely tied around her neck. Ankle boots.

There are so many issues with Leela's costume, and yet it is by far one of my favourite Doctor Who costumes, because it gave Leela the space to be something quite different in what kind of companion they were.

Last time I ran a Doctor Who RPG with Leela as a character she was played by SF author Mary Gentle, who really got into the role...

US President: "Well hello there, little lady"

Leela: "Can I kill him now, Doctor?"

I love Leela's outfit! It might have been designed for the dads but her attitude and personality makes that completely irrelevant.

This is impossible. Leela's outfit is incredible, but this is Clara's hottest outfit, hands down...

Sorry, I like both but Leela was one of my favourite characters and that costume has been part of my mental image of the Whoniverse since the seventies, Clara's didn't really compare in impact.

Leela's is classic and Clara's is non-descript. It was probably me who didn't like the undone tie.
