Rogue
I enjoyed this well enough, but I'm not sure I was quite the right audience.
I've never seen an episode of Bridgerton so I probably didn't approach this with quite the intended set of expectations. Lots of the trappings were fun but, for me, it was mostly "eh! pretty!" rather than "ooh! Bridgerton reference!". I'm obviously also clearly way out of touch with pop music since I didn't even realise they were playing regencified versions of well-known songs until I read about it later on t'Internet.
In may ways, epic romance aside, this was a very standard Doctor Who episode. In fact one could argue that it was the most normal-for-Who episode all season. There were a bunch of aliens with a dastardly plot, then a lot of running around until good triumphed over evil. It wasn't particularly high concept (I do not count "Bridgerton pastiche" as high concept), there were no supernatural gods, and no fart jokes. Romance and production values aside, this could have been dropped into the classic series and would not have looked out of place.
Rogue and his romance with the Doctor were, of course, the bit intended to make the episode stand out. I would personally have liked a little more build up, but the story was constrained by a 45 minute length, and the need for a main plot. The concept of the Doctor as an asexual being has been dead and buried for a decade at this point. I recognise that many fans of my generation mourn its passing, but it's not something that particularly upsets me. On the other hand, I wasn't particularly swept away by this romance either.
All in all, I thought this was mostly a very standard Doctor Who episode. It was well done and I'd probably put it in the top half of the episodes this season, but I wasn't as blown away by it as a lot of fans seem to have been.
