Hadrian's Wall, Day 2

18 miles. Rained in the morning. We discovered the above stretch of visible Vallum (EDIT: Or possibly the defensive ditch to the north judging by the position of the Military Road in that picture) just as the sun came out - hence B's umbrella. Sunny in the afternoon. Staying at an extremely nice B&B near the Mithraeum at Carrawbrough.

Blisters improved but I still hobble whenever I start walking after a rest.

I recommend Compeed, if you are near a shop. Glad they seem better, that's the trouble when they just don't get a chance to do so.

I didn't know about Compeed. So far I've been lancing the blisters with a savlon coated needle, which seems to be doing the trick in that the skin has stayed on but the pressure has been reduced, and so far (*fingers crossed*) nothing has got infected. If we see a chemist in Gilsand tomorrow though I may try to get hold of some.
