Oh, that would have been quite clever! I like that. I wonder if the executives thinking the average viewer needs it all carefully explained to them, also explains the vague sense I got from the movie that it expected the audience to be a bit mind-blown by the whole concept of a simulated reality rather than recognising it as a standard SF trope with roots in philosophical thought going back at least 400 years.
