I've never done this meme before, often because I'm not clear what counts as the "closest book". However, in this case I'm at work and there are only two books on the desk, in a pile, so I reckon it's the top one.
* Grab the nearest book.
* Open the book to page 56.
* Find the fifth sentence.
* Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
* Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST.
The end of all this angst about closest book is the exceptionally dull sentence
