I think the other problem with "Ghost Light" is that I remember that on first broadcast some of the dialogue was quite unintelligible. I think the DVD is better, but I don't know if that's down to better technology nowadays or if the soundtrack was actually remixed.
I've always thought that the Doctor condemning Gwendoline to death for enjoying things too much was projection. But, as you say, by waking Light, the Doctor is *directly* responsible for the deaths of Mrs. Pritchard, Gwendoline, Inspector MacKenzie, and the unfortunate housemaid.
