Essentially it saves the metanewsmods time, turning a task involving a mixture of copying, pasting, editing and writing into a simple copy-paste - having helped out with/worked on a few LJ type things that involve collating links, I know how fiddly simply recording a link can be unless you can just do a simple copy-paste. As I understood it the mod team were suffering rapid turnover and burnout because of the time involved in amassing all the links. Taking the time, myself, to provide something they could copy-paste directly seemed to be a small something I could do to help.

Though it must be said, when I do look at metanews, I generally find too many of the likely looking links don't actually end up anywhere very interesting to persuade me to make the effort to check it regularly.
