I felt like, either she needed to be young and rather oblivious to how controlling he was, but then she wouldn't have broken up with him quite so simply _or_ she saw right through him in which case why was she even going out with him in the first place? - and obviously I realise that narratively they were trying to cram a lot into two pretty short scenes but it just felt clunky.
I think if he'd been a bit less overtly "women are stupid and need to do what they're told" then I could imagine her splitting up with him in that way teenagers do because she just got a bit of a vibe that he wasn't all that but hanging on the certificate as a sweet gesture, but I guess that would have required more time to lay out and made his fundamental flaws rather more obscure to the audience.
